There is a lot of natural hair rules in the community which can cause any newly natural to become overwhelmed. You do not need to follow the 100 steps out there. Remember that simple is always better for your life, including your natural hair regimen. So here are 5 natural hair rules you should be following:
1) DON’T CO-WASH, CLEANSE YOUR HAIR: –
Yes naturals, do not co-wash your hair. Co-washing your hair is not a form of cleansing your scalp and hair. Co-washers are made with conditioners which are not a cleanser. They replenish the hair with the moisture that was removed after cleansing. SO, co-washing your hair will not remove the dirt, debris and product build up in the last week. It will leave your scalp feeling itchy. As well as it causes your curls to feel weighed down with a lot of products since it has not been cleansed. The best way to cleanse your hair is by using a shampoo.
2) MOISTURISING AND SEALING YOUR HAIR: –
Our curls love to be moisturised as it will remain healthy. The best way to keep your curls moisturised is by sealing in the moisture. Once it is sealed in then it will have no way of escaping it all. Therefore, our curls will stay moisturised longer. The longer it stays moisturised then there is no need to restyle it so often. As well, your hair is not in a dry state which can cause knots, tangles, and breakage. Therefore, it will not affect your length retention goals. And more importantly, having moisturised curls keep it in a healthy state as your hair is stronger. So, it is able to withstand any harm coming to it whether it is the weather elements,
3) DEEP CONDITIONING WEEKLY: –
You should be deep conditioning your curls each and every week. It aids in rejuvenating your hair for the upcoming week ahead. Consider deep conditioners as a mini spa treatment except its for the health of your hair. Consistently doing these will promote stronger, longer, moisturised, and shinier curls. In addition, it makes your curls feel softer as they easier to manage when styling or detangling. And finally, your curls will glow form the inside out.
3) USE HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS: –
We all think we should not be spending the whole bank on natural hair products which we agree on. However, does not mean you should be a complete miser on it as well. The health of your curls is an investment, so it treats it as such. If the $2 product is doing nothing for the health of your hair, then scrap it. Buy another product that costs more but gets the job done. You do not have to jump from $2 to $25. There are great products in between at $10 which re affordable, excellent quality and will last you a long time.
4) OIL YOUR SCALP: –
We all want long and healthy hair like the RAPUNZEL fairy-tale we heard when we were younger. How do we get it? By oiling and massaging our scalp often. You do not have to do it every day. Just do it when it is convenient it to you. Massaging your scalp helps to promote blood circulation to the follicles so that your new growth emerges. In addition, the oils aid nourishing the follicles so more hair will want to grow during the anagen phase (growth phase).
So get your castor/amla oil and start massaging
