Hair talk
Hi my lovely friends, I have lovely women, I would like you to all meet Taylor Jeffers, she is taking over the ‘HAIR WHAT I’VE GOT TO SAY’ segment. whoop whoop!
Introduce yourself, what do you do?
My name is Taylor Jeffers, also known as Tay Jenee. I’m a former college basketball player turned marketing professional. I recently moved over to the Strategy & Business Development team here at Bed Bath and Beyond Corporate.
My truest passions however, lie in sharing thrifting and natural hair care tips. Through my platform tayjenee.com, I’m aiming to change the stigma surrounding second-hand clothes while empowering naturals through easy hair maintenance options. Having a closet full of cute pieces and healthy bomb hair on your head shouldn’t cost you all of your coins and your sanity.
What’s the favourite thing you love about the work that you do?
Professionally–I get to work with several different people because I manage several customer-facing programs for the business that I work on. I’m a people-person and work well when I am able to connect with and impact others.
Personally– I like the fact that my blog is MINE. I love the fact that I own something that I have complete and endless creative control over. I also enjoy that my platforms provide me with the opportunity to inform and at times inspire my audience in the natural hair and thrifting realms.
Are you natural or relaxed? (is that your natural hair colour and texture)
Natural. Yes, this is my natural color and texture.
What are your go to products?
Aussie Moist 3 Minute Deep Conditioner, Olive Oil Ecostyler Gel, and Taliah Waajid Apple & Aloe Curl Definer
What is your all time favourite hairstyle?
I’d probably have to say a flexi-rod set on blown out hair
What are your 3 top hair care tips?
1. Deep condition weekly
2. Finger detangle more than using tools
3. Avoid styling often; focus on low maintenance styling
Do you have a hair routine?
I do. Several, in fact. The one I follow the most has to be the LOC method. Each time I wash, or cowash, I follow up with the LOC (leave-in conditioner, oil, cream) method or at least some version of it. Lately I’ve been going with the OLC (if that’s even a thing) method. I applied oil to my hair before applying my leave-in conditioner once, completely by accident. I was too lazy to rinse it out so I just added the leave-in on top and I was actually pleasantly surprised with how soft and moisturized my hair felt. I’ve been doing that method ever since. It’s been about 3 months now.
Describe yourself in five words?
Dynamic, Hopeful, Loving, Witty, Charming
What helps give you inspiration/motivation?
In terms of style, I draw most of my inspiration from prior decades. The 80s and 90s to be exact. I like re-creating looks from those eras with some inspiration from today’s fashion as well. About 70% of Apple music playlist is comprised of music from those eras as well. One would say I’m a bit obsessed, ha.
I stay motivated through my faith in God and I’d have to say my closest friends and family inspire/motivate me. I’m surrounded by some pretty incredible people that are doing some dope things while in pursuit of their dreams. Their hustle and tenacity helps drive mine. Iron sharpens iron.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
(in no particular order)
1. Debt-free by 35
2. Visit Africa
3. Be self-employed (whatever that looks like)
What made you laugh this week?
Some jokes that were thrown around between me and the 3 friends I took a recent trip to Antigua with.
