Hi my lovely friends, I have amazing women, I would like you to all meet Rekayla Jevine she is taking over the ‘HAIR WHAT I’VE GOT TO SAY’ segment.
Introduce yourself, what do you do?
Hi, my name is Rekayla Jevine, otherwise known as Rekayla Curls on Instagram. I am a natural hair enthusiast and blogger, based in London. Through my pictures and videos, I aim to spread positive inspiration and information about curly and natural hair, especially within the UK.
What’s the favourite thing you love about the work that you do?
My most favourite thing about what I do is the opportunity to inspire young women and girls to embrace themselves to their fullest. Also, I love the opportunity to meet and connect in person with beautiful men and women and bond through our love of natural hair.
Are you natural or relaxed?
I am natural and I wear my hair in its natural texture, and for the most part in its natural colour. I did die my hair jet black a few years ago, the ends have faded and has grown out quite a bit now. My hair is quite fine, but extremely curly.
What are your go to products?
I am a bit of a product junkie and I love trying out anything that is new and different. However, at the moment I am loving the Tsaka Melanin Queen SOS hair Rescue Mask. Every time I use this product, it leaves my hair feeling so thick and moisturised, so would definitely recommend! I also love the Shea moisture Jamaican black castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner. It has never failed me!
What is your all-time favourite hairstyle?
My all-time favourite hairstyle is a low puff. It works well on freshly washed hair and also hair that is about 3 to 4 days old. It takes about five minutes to do and you can wear it for so many different types of occasions.
What are your 3 top hair care tips?
My first hair tip is to deep condition every time you wash your hair. It will make such a difference in the thickness and strength of your strands. My second tip would be to wear your hair in stretched styles if you are looking to retain length. If you have very curly or kinky hair, it’s very easy for your hair to shrink up and form single strand knots and split ends, so stretching your hair would prevent this and help you increase your length. My last tip would be only to comb your hair when it is wet, either with conditioner or with moisturising products. I don’t comb my hair when it’s dry.
Do you have a hair routine?
Yes, my weekly wash day routine is pretty much the same every week. I shampoo the roots of my hair twice, then section my hair into 4 sections and apply deep conditioner from root to tip, use my conditioning heat cap and let that do its magic. Once done, I will moisturise using the L.C.O method. I always wash my hair every 7 to 10 days. Every month I will try and use the steamer on my hair as well. I don’t do much during the week, so I need to make sure my weekly routine is thorough!
Describe yourself in five words?
Smiley / Practical / Fun / Resourceful / Resilient
What helps give you inspiration/motivation?
Knowing that people enjoy my content keeps me motivated to keep producing quality content that is both entertaining and informative. Also feeling I am having a positive impact on people gives you a great sense of purpose, that keeps you going, because there is always more you can do to ensure your impact is meaningful and long lasting.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
Go to Cuba before Capitalism fully takes over.
Have the ability to work from anywhere in the world.
Get abs! I want them back!
What made you laugh this week?
Oh… there are so many little things throughout week, like silly videos on Facebook or the meams on Instagram, but I would say my sister! She always has witty comments that crack me up during our two hour conversations.
