HAIR WHAT I’VE GOT TO SAY
Hi my lovely friends, I have lovely women and super positive person today on my blog. I would like you to all meet Adobera she is taking over the ‘HAIR WHAT I’VE GOT TO SAY’ segment.
Q: Introduce yourself, what do you do?
A: Hey Everyone! My name’s Adobera Ejikeme and I’m a designer, a creative, a speaker …
LOL I’m a lot of things to put into one. All jokes aside, I recently just completed my BA in
Architecture (the first part) but alongside that I have a passion for speaking particularly
about ‘Purpose’. As I believe that it is only through knowing and finding who you truly are
that you will be able to identify where your calling lies.
Q: What inspired you to do the things you now do?
A: Growing up, I’ve always been someone that sees the beauty in everything especially
nature. There’s something so amazing about being sat in silence just staring at a picturesqe view. Whether this be the ocean when the sun’s setting or being at the top of a city at night
when all the lights are on. It’s just so serene and it does something to you internally. In secondary school when Tumblr came into existence this opened me up to a world I didn’t even know existed. I would spend hours scrolling through it and I would come across all
these architectural designs and interior spaces and I just loved how these spaces made me
feel when I saw them. I believe architecture is greater than just being a building or a interio
space, it’s more psychological than we think; it has the power to heal.
This also ties in with my passion to speak as I believe the spaces I put people in whenever I
hold my events is so important because it helps to set the tone for how people will feel and
respond while at the event.
I just want to add that, it is so important to pay attention to the little details about yourself
and your life because all those things are an identification of who you are. Whether you like
to cook or sing, don’t despise those gifts because you never know tomorrow where they will
take you. Allow yourself to see beyond what something is because if you can dream it you
definitely can be and do it!
Q: Are you natural or relaxed (is that your natural hair colour and texture)
A: I’m natural. I haven’t always been natural. I relaxed my hair when I was about 7 or 8, I
started transitioning early 2016 and now my hair’s fully transitioned.
Q: What is your all time favourite hairstyle?
A: My favourite hairstyle has to be a slicked back bun.
When I was relaxed my favourite hairstyle was always my signature bone straight weave
with a leave‐out. However, now that I’m natural I’ve had to let go of the heat and replace it
with the slicked back bun since I like my hair laid, sleek yet laid back since I’m quite a chilld
Q: Do you have a hair routine?
A: I’m a simple girl so I like all the things in my life to be stress free. I wash my hair every
week or every two weeks depending on how busy or bothered I’m feeling that week because washing my hair takes mental strength LOL! I’m trying to get better.
When I wash my hair, since it’s not always as often as I should I have build up so I always shampoo my hair, condition it and leave it to sit for 15 minutes, then I deep condition it and
leave it in for 30 minutes and then I wash it out and put in a leave‐in conditioner which I let sit for the whole night with my hair sectioned out in twists. The next morning, I wet my hair with a spray bottle, moisturise it with some coconut oil and then slick it down with some Eco Styler Gel. When I get tired of my natural hair and want a change, I get braids done and then every few months I go to my hairdresser (@Leemahairstylist) to get my hair treated, my split ends cut if need be and to make sure my hair is doing well since it was with her I was able to successfully transition and grow my natural hair in just over a year.
Q: Describe yourself in five words?
A: Caring, loving, encouraging, observant and ambitious
Q: What helps give you inspiration/motivation?
A: My main sources of inspiration come from sermons, quotes and people. If it wasn’t for
God I don’t know where I’d be mentally so whenever my spirit is low, need a boost of
encouragement or struggling with something, I watch sermons about those things. Which
also helps with my spiritual life as it’s from those sermons I learn more about how and
where to read in the bible.
When I don’t have the time to sit and watch videos, I read quotes. I do this daily and it’s
something I’ve been doing religiously since secondary school. That’s my daily dose of
encouragement and it helps to get my mind right and combat any negative thoughts.
I love one on one time with my friends, family and new people I connect with. There’s so
much power and healing in speaking. Transparent conversations are a great way for me to
gain the inspiration/motivation I need because I always leave those conversations feeling
like a weigh’s been lifted off my shoulder.
Q: What are the top three things on your bucket list?
A: I don’t actually have a bucket list, I just have things I want to be and achieve. These being, reaching my highest potential in respect to my calling, having absolute joy in my life and
being financially free.
Q: What made you laugh this week?
A: My brother. A day in my house is never a dull day!
