Narley’, is a 20-something model from Toronto, Canada of Ghanaian West African descent. Born and raised in Mississauga, Naa-Larley found her passion for modelling after competing in a beauty pageant.
Thank you Narley for taking over the ‘HAIR WHAT I’VE GOT TO SAY’ segment.
Introduce yourself, what do you do?
My name is Narley, Im a published model, writer, and self-care advocate from Toronto, Canada. I’m passionate about personal growth, travelling, social media, beauty, art & connecting with new people (and of course modelling & writing). I graduated from the University with a degree in Applied Arts and a diploma in Media Communications. With that, I’ve been able to explore four different streams of media, including journalism, image arts, digital communication and my major – public relations.
What’s the favourite thing you love about the work that you do?
My favourite thing about modelling is the creative individuals I meet while on set. Learning from them, collaborating together to get the perfect shot & enjoying their company and ambition creates the type of environment I can’t get enough of! That why I’ve been modelling for 4 years. It’s a labour of love and it has given me great people skills.
Are you natural or relaxed? (is that your natural hair colour and texture)
My hair is relaxed and healthy.
What are your go to products?
My go to products
1) Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisterizer by ‘Elasta QP’
2) All Natural Black Castor Oil Shampoo by ‘Tropic Isle Living’
3) Carrot Tea-Tree Oil Therapy by ‘Organics by Africa’s Best’
What is your all time favourite hairstyle?
I typically wear protective styles and weaves/wigs. My hair underneath grows faster this way I find. For weaves, I usually have a body wave Brazilian human hair installed with a lace closure or frontal that I curl & straighten for photoshoots.
What are your 3 top hair care tips?
· Show tender love & care to your hair underneath your weaves! Wash as needed & apply oil and creams often. Due to protective hairstyles/weaves, I have not applied heat or used a straightener on my relaxed hair in 3 years (except for blow-drying before braiding) which has helped me grow and strengthened my relaxed.
· Give your scalp a massage for 5 minutes every now & then. It stimulates growth J
· User Apple Cider Vinegar on a cotton pad once a month and gently dab through your cornrows to rid dandruff build-up.
Do you have a hair routine?
I relax my hair every 10-12 weeks & do deep conditioning treatments after every relaxer. I apply oil every other day. I use a protein leave-in conditioner (Soft n Silky’s Leave-In Hair Treatment Spray) after washing my hair as well.
Describe yourself in five words?
Creative, Fun-Loving, Optimistic, Ambitious & Kind.
What helps give you inspiration/motivation?
Listening to inspirational/motivational & healing YouTube videos (TD Jakes & Iyanla Vanzant are great). Daily affirmations via www.Louisehay.com. Giving thanks & feeling gratitude throughout the day. I also journal my thoughts/emotions/experiences to record my progress and aspirations in life.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
Travel the world (30 countries before 30, 18 more to go!), Go on a big family vacation (recently got 2 new nieces J), learn to speak Spanish fluently (Estoy estudiando Español), land a bigggg modelling campaign/contract.
What made you laugh this week?
My mom told me her summer was “about to be lit” and I died of laughter.
